PowerEdge 600SC PCI Device Questions

PowerEdge 600SC Processor Questions

1.       What processors does my system support?

2.       Why do I see two processors in my operating system when only one is installed?

1.     &nbspWhat processors does my system support?

The PowerEdge 600SC supports one processor, ranging in speed from 1.7Ghz to 3.06Ghz, depending on the type of motherboard that shipped in each model.

Originally, the PowerEdge 600SC server series shipped with motherboards that supported a 400Mhz Front-Side Bus (FSB), Shortly after development and shipping of the PowerEdge 600SC, a new motherboard design was offered, which accommodates a 533Mhz FSB.

To determine which FSB speed and processors the system will accommodate, enter System Setup during the boot-up process by pressing the F2 function key as prompted. Look for the CPU Information section.

More information on viewing this information in System Setup can be found here:

400MHz FSB motherboard only

311-2283       1.7Ghz Celeron processor with 128KB Cache
311-2284       1.8Ghz Pentium 4 processor with 512KB Cache
311-2285       2.4Ghz Pentium 4 processor with 512KB Cache

533MHz FSB motherboard only

311-2714       1.8Ghz Celeron processor with 256KB Cache
311-2715       2.0Ghz Pentium 4 processor with 512KB Cache
311-2716       2.4Ghz Pentium 4 processor with 512KB Cache
311-2717       2.8Ghz Pentium 4 processor with 512KB Cache
2U377             3.06Ghz Pentium 4 processor with 512KB Cache

Below are part numbers for the accompanying heatsink/fan assembly and retainer clips necessary for the processor. The Heatsink Retention Module is universal and will work with any of the above processors. However, there are different Heatsink/fan assemblies, dependent on the speed of the motherboard (i.e. 400Mhz FSB versus 533Mhz).

2Y221       Heatsink Retention Module (includes Heat Sink Retention Module and clips)
7R181       Heatsink Assembly (includes heatsink and fan) 400Mhz
1Y277       Heatsink Assembly (includes heatsink and fan) 533Mhz

Please note that the contents of the above part numbers are subject to change over time, as is availability of those parts.

We recommend contacting our Spare Parts department at 1-800-372-3355 for pricing, availability, and purchasing of all the above parts.

2.     &nbspWhy do I see two processors in my operating system when only one is installed?

The newest 3.06Ghz processor in the PowerEdge 600SC system supports a technology known as hyper-threading. Hyper-threading allows one processor to act as two logical processors by providing two different data paths on the same chipset. Thus, with one physical processor in the system, the OS sees two logical processors.
