PowerEdge 830 Can not run WIndows Server 2008 Hyper-V

PowerEdge 830 Can not run WIndows Server 2008 Hyper-V

BIOS A4 / Memory 8GB

Installed Windows Server 2008 Enterprise x64,

but can not start Hyper-V. Error Message

Hyper-V enabled processor not detected, change settings in BIOS.

I do not get the option to choose Virtualization Technology from the BIOS Setup Step 3 as follows:.

To enable hardware-assisted virtualization:

1

Press <F2> in the POST screen to go to the BIOS setup.

2

Navigate to the CPU Information section.

3

Press and navigate to Virtualization Technology.

4

Select Enabled by toggling the left and right arrow keys.

5

Save the selection and exit the BIOS setup.

As per one Microsoft webpage (I can not find the url right now though) it is a supported System.

Any help highly appreciated

Thanks

Mohan

Not all processors in the 830 have the Intel Virtualization Technology. I would gather that if the option isn't in the BIOS, you don't have a PROC that has that support. Which PROC do you have?

This is the website which says PowerEdge 830 is supported:

This is another discussion forum in which one guy says he is using PowerEdge 830 with Hyper-V.

Download CPU-Z and run it. It can tell you the capabilities of your processor.

As you can see here, the Pentium D 830 (3 GHz, 800MHz FSB) doesn't have VT, and as you can see here, the Pentium D 925 doesn't have VT, but the Pentium D 930 does have VT (both 3GHz and 800MHz FSB).
