The R610 does support Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, CentOS is not officially supported but since it is based on RHEL which is supported it should work. Openstack is a software suite that runs inside the OS, so it will work as long as the OS does. http://www.ubuntu.com/cloud/ubuntu-openstack
For the firmware revisions we would recommend updating to the latest versions. The easiest way to do that is to is to boot to the lifecycle controller with F10 during POST and choosing the platform update option.
