R730 running Hyper V server 2012r2 USB
Hello all,
I am trying to set up my new Dell R730 to run Hyper V server 2012r2 from an internal USB stick. However the OS does not run, gives an error:
Windows failed to start.......
File:\windows\system32\drivers\wdf01000.sys
Status: 0xc0000221
Basically a driver is missing from the OS due to the newer hardware.
This USB stick works fine on my older R720 servers, so I know it isn't a problem with the build of my USB stick. The ISO I build from is from Microsoft and is the latest they provide (which isn't that new).
Does Dell have an ISO for Hyper V server 2012r2 that I can use to build with? If so could someone please provide a link as I haven't been able to find one.
Thanks

Seeing though there was no reply I went ahead and injected Dell drivers (chipset, network and drivers for OS deployment) into the install.wim file. I can now boot up but I get to another error:
"Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart. We're just collecting some error info, and then we'll restart for you."
I have tracked this down to a USB3 error. Disabling USB3 in the BIOS allows running HyperV 2012r2 from USB to work.
Does anyone know if there is a Dell USB3 driver I can use?

The installation still fails. If you try to make configuration changes to HyperV using Sconfig, such as changing the computer name or joining a domain, the OS does not reboot - only goes in to repair mode and won't exit from it.
Does anyone know why running Hyper V server core from USB is so difficult on the R730 compared to the R720, R710 where it works flawlessly?
It's not a good solution where you have to waste HDDs to run such a small class 1 hypervisor. Is anyone apart from myself reading this?
