RAID 1 & Server 2008 in Dell T320

How to Configure RAID1 and install Windows Server 2008 in Dell T320? Dell server does need any other OS loading disk or not? In IBM (I forget the model), it need a disk for loading the OS, by the help of that disk we simply choose our RAID type ( RAID 0 or RAID 1) and Choose OS type. After that disk ask for OS disk and we simply insert OS disk to optical disk. Is there is the same way in DELL Server as well?? Or different. I am new for Dell Server. Please help me as soon as possible. Thank you.

Yes, it is called the Systems Build and Update Utility. It is under the Secure Systems Management section of our Drivers and Downloads page for the system. Alternatively, you could use the SMTD. The SMTD contains the SBUU and a few other tools:

Most of our RAID controllers will work with the driver that is in the OS driver database, so no driver is required to be installed during OS installation. You would boot to the controller BIOS to create the RAID array.

Thanks

Yes, I do search for installing server and Raid 1. SBUU is large file (~1.5GB). I found another alternation method, Lifecycle controller. I stooped their, please tell me what it installation method i.e. OS Configuration file? please help me. I also download from dell OS deployment driver (.exe file) for T320 Server pc in USB flash drive but that is not a correct file. Then which file i need?

Hi Mhdshrestha,

Yes. Operating System Deployment feature in Lifecycle Controller helps to install an Operating System and the relevant drivers in a few easy steps Using the OS Deployment wizard.OS Deployment wizard also allows RAID configuration before installing the Operating System if it is not already configured.

Follow below whitepaper procedure document for reference .Hope this will resolve your problem.

Hi,

On the outset it appears like there are some steps missed in LC installation to get config file population.

You would need not to select "Unattended installation" in LC OS installation steps if you are not having the unattended OS iso. Try choosing the manual installation method after creating the RAID and proceed to mount the OS DVD throught Virtual Media (idrac) or Share if you have it handy. In this way there is no configuration file is required and it should start smooth.

Let me know if this works out..

Thanks,

Sasi
