Raid 5 configuration
Dears,
I would like to ask the following:
I have this server dell poweredge T610 with 8 disk on raid 5 configured for 1 virtual disk.
All of them 250 sata, one of them failed, and i'm not able to find one of the same size to replace it. Is it possible to replace it with a large one? maybe on 500 gb?
And do i need to turn of the server in order to perform the rebuild or reform? not quick sure which of the process to use.
Can some one explain this to me.
Many thanks for the support!
Regards,

Thanks for your question. You can always go same size or larger when replacing a failed drive in an array. You will want to do this under power, unless the drives are cabled. Hot swap the drive and the rebuild process should begin.

Nico1988,
Also, If throught the installed OpenManage software on the same server, you can also attempt to have below :
A Dedicated Hotspare for the particular Virtual Disk - based on feasibility (OR) A Global hot spare based on availability
Thanks

Thanks for your suggestion. I replaced the defected disk, the disk now appears on OpenManage as Ready. Guess i have to execute the assign global hotspare task on this disk?

Yes, assign the disk as a hot-spare (Global under Physical Disks or Dedicated under Virtual Disks).
