Windows Server 2003 x64 R2

Windows Server 2003 R2 x64 Re-installation

How do we go about re-installing the operating system without the Dell PowerEdge Server and Management CD? We only have the Microsoft version of the OS but it doesn't detect the hard drive when it is booted from the CD. What needs to be done?

HELP NEEDED!!

It wont detect the hard drive because F6 drivers are not on the CD.  That is what the server assistant DVD is for.  There isn't one size fits all for this disc it entirely depends on the model of server.

Using Dell OpenManage Server Assistant 8

Perc 5/i integrated. We have a Dell PowerEdge 2950 Server. I was able to Download the driver but it comes in .exe file format. How do we go about making the SCSI Adapter driver bootable? We don't have the server assistant CD, so we have to use the MICROSOFT OEM CD instead, which requires the SCSI Adapter driver to be installed first.

Thanks.

What model server is this?
Which RAID controller is installed?

You can extract the files from the EXE using the /extract switch or you can just use the "Hard Drive" (ZPE) version:

http://downloads.dell.com/FOLDER97902M/6/DELL_MULTI-DEVICE_A07_R211424.exe

You must run this file on any Windows system to extract its contents before use.  You can put the files on a floppy disk to load at the F6 prompt, or you can use nLiteOS.com to integrate the drivers into your installation media (will create a new CD/ISO to install with).

Keep in mind that the PERC does NOT support non-RAID, so you MUST first configure (AND Initialize) RAID in the CTRL-R utility, or no drives will be seen for the install even with the correct drivers.

If you want to use the installation utility, you can download it here:

http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=PYKGK&fileId=3365348005&osCode=WX64&productCode=poweredge-2950&languageCode=EN&categoryId=SZ

Boot to SMTD, choose to Install OS, configure RAID (if you have not already done so in the CTRL-R utility), then insert the Windows media when prompted.  Your installation CD for 2003 R2 MUST have SP2 on it, or it will not work with SMTD.

Don't use the Server Assistant ISO's listed above - they are obsolete even for the older models listed.  Use SBUU or SMTD.

Server 2003x64 is supported - see image below (there is no difference between R1 and R2 support).

FYI,

Even though MS Windows 2003 x64 is listed on the supported operating system. There is no option for Windows Server 2003 R2 x64 Standard for this release. I verified it twice. There was only option for Windows Server 2008 and above.

If you could provide me with a version that does have Windows Server 2003 x64 R2 Standard that would be great.

Thanks.

You can try an older version:
http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/Drivers/DriversDetails?DriverId=68RWT

Don't forget to concatenate the two ISO's before burning it to DVD.

How to do you concatenate the two ISO's? I tried using UltraISO but disc two of the ISO image doesn't open. It is saying unknown file format when I try to open it.

Thanks.

After that, to concat the two files, you don't need an ISO program - type the following at a Windows Command Prompt while in the directory with your downloads:

copy /b OM* SMTD_6.5.0_Full.iso

Then you can burn the Full.iso to DVD.

There is no other link - no other location - where it can be downloaded.  The links above pull the files from the following FTP locations upon verification:

ftp://ftp.dell.com/secure/sysman/om_6.5.0_smtd_a01.iso.001
ftp://ftp.dell.com/secure/sysman/om_6.5.0_smtd_a01.iso.002

Just download them again and verify the hash on the download page (hash is found using the link previously provided).

Hi Jay,

You need to provide the derver here.

Download the selecting your server and OS from  http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/

Provide the driver after extract it. Once the driver loaded, the Virtual Disk will detect automatically and can continue the OS installation

Thanks,

Sasi
