Im planing to get a PE 1950 with the DRAC 5th generation card.

another query i have is would fedora core detect all the hardware in the dell PE1950 natively or do i need to install some drivers manually?

Dell doesn't support or test Fedora Core on our systems. Open Manage probably will not work because it was created for RHEL 4.

Chances are that Fedora Core 5 running the latest errata kernel should have little to no problems working with the PE 1950, but again, since Dell doesn't test Fedora Core, I can not be certain that everything will work perfectly.

Hi Eric,

Thanks a lot for your answer.

I have one more query.
I have ordered a PE1950 with the no operating system option and the DRAC 5 card in it.

Ive instructed the host to get into the BOIS and set the networking paramaters for the DRAC card and insert the FC5 DVD into the drive. So i can install the OS remotely.

Is the server pre configured with the raid and everything?
Would i need to use any of the dell CDs before loading the OS, etc?

Depending on how you order the server, there may be a RAID container, or nothing at all.  If you have remote access via the DRAC, you can remotely configure a RAID container.

hi.
My PE1950 is now delivered
the host set in everything in the BIOS as per :-
http://supportapj.dell.com/support/edocs/software/smdrac3/drac5/1.00/en/UG/html/racugc2.htm#wp76672

now i cant ping the assigned IP nor can i open https://IP

is there any other setting to this also?

Are external IPs blocked by some firewall on the DRAC 5?
helppp urgent.

There isn't a firewall configuration on the drac. Did you perhaps forget to configure a gateway address / VLAN selection?

Is the IPMI Over LAN interface on in the Remote Access Configuration utility (ctrl -e) on POST?

not sure as it wasnt me doint the actual setup.
All i know is when ctrl-e is pressed they get some configuration menu where they had set the networking params to dedicated, and static IP.
The IP address and LAN cabling works as in they tested it by puting another server there using the same IP im trying to use in its place and it worked just fine.

on trying to ping the drac:-
[root@xx ~]# ping myip
PING myip (myip) 56(84) bytes of data.
From gatewayip icmp_seq=0 Destination Host Unreachable
From gatewayip icmp_seq=1 Destination Host Unreachable

fors DRAC 5 normally respond to pings?
