r720xd Device Settings NIC not HDD

idrac-devicesettings1.jpg

TrueNAS Scale sees four SAS drives when it's booted from USB and I select Install from the Menu.

Device Settings is showing these four NIC's instead.

How do I get the server to see the drives so that it boots from a SAS, please?

The error makes no sense - because TrueSAS Scale sees the drives just fine - so that would indicate that the cables and drives are OK. Where else should I look, please?

Is no one in this community familiar with the r720xd and TrueNAS Scale?

Is there another community or forum where I might find someone who is?

It's very frustrating that I've had this server for weeks and have been unable to use it.

Thanks

Hello dcolburn,

I wanted to let you know your post has been seen.

Dell has not validated TrueNAS as an operating system on the R720xd.

Your PowerEdge R720xd supports these operating systems:

For a validated OS we recommend using the LifeCycle Controller OS Deploy wizard to configure your array and install OS.

How to install the operating system on a Dell PowerEdge Server? (OS deployment)

We may have someone in the community that has installed TrueNAS and can share their experience.

SUCCESS! TrueNAS Scale is installed on my Dell r720xd. Reverted from IT Crossflash and fumbled around until I got into the Raid settings. Created virtual drives of all four SAS disks - each as Raid 0. Then set BIOS to boot from the TrueNAS Scale USB stick, Ran Install to the first two drives. Rebooted. It spewed pages of output, mostly green OK, some red fails toward the end ... probably network related (scrolled too fast to read). Ignored menu request to select 1 of 9 and hit enter - router showed an IP. [Note: Had cable plugged into lone port - had to move it to one of the 4 ports groups together. The lone port is idrac.] Logged in from my laptop - nice GUI!

Well ... not so fast. Appears to work, but not quite. IT Crossflashing proved necessary, including the Boot Image "optional" step.

Hi,

PowerEdge tower servers are designed to solve the challenges of the modern office environment by providing quiet, centralized processing in a compact space. All tower servers are easily implemented, managed and automate https://www.dell.com/community/10elotto and I told it to my elder brother because they have knowledge about Power Wire Battery Connection and I have shared it with my friends. As soon as I get the best answer, I will tell you here https://www.dell.com/community/PowerEdge-OS-Forum/10eloto

Thanks.
