ubuntu 10.04 LTS installation issue.

Hi, I'm Russell from Smart Technologies (BD) Ltd., Bangladesh.

We are unable to install ubuntu 10.04 LTS on DELL PowerEdge R720. But we can install ubuntu 12.04 LTS without trouble. Our customer is not interested to install ubuntu 12.04 LTS, because they will not be able to synchronize with their existing systems without ubuntu 10.04 LTS. Please guide me to solve the issue.

Hello Russell

I just tested this on an R720 with ubuntu-10.04.4-server-amd64.iso from http://releases.ubuntu.com/lucid/

The issue appears to be compatibility with UEFI boot mode. With boot mode set to UEFI the system is unable to locate a bootable device. Changing boot mode to BIOS allows it to successfully boot to the CD.

If you need to use UEFI boot mode then you will need to reach out to some Ubuntu experts on how to create a custom image of Ubuntu 10.04 to be compatible with the UEFI running on the R720. I did not install the operating system, so I'm unsure if there are issues during the installation.

Thanks

Hi

I'm trying to install the same thing.  Do you have any documentation on how to get it to recognize the ethernet and drive?  Thanks.

Use http://mijyn.github.io/relinux/ to build custom iso with upgraded kernel and packages.
