Migrating to SAN powerpath boot device on AIX 5.3 - HOWTO?

Hello all,

I am trying to migrate the rootvg from a locally attached scsi disk to a powerpathed SAN device on AIX 5.3. Do you guys have any suggestions what to do in which order?

The point of departure:
hdisk0 (local scsi disk) - rootvg
hdisk3 (san disk on 1st path)
hdisk4 (san disk on 2nd path)
hdiskpower0 (hdisk3 + hdisk4)

What I did so far was this:
extendvg rootvg hdiskpower0
migratepv hdisk0 hdiskpower0
reducevg rootvg hdisk0
chpv -c hdisk0
bootlist -m normal hdisk3 hdisk4
pprootdev fix

The "pprootdev fix" command returns an error:
0301-154 bosboot: missing proto file: /usr/lib/boot/network/chrp.hdiskpower.proto
pprootdev: PowerPath boot is not currently enabled.

So, did I do something wrong or did I miss something?

Hello OSindt,

welcome to EMC forums. Please download Host Connectivity guide for AIX and take a look at pages 50-88.

you can find the guide here:

Thanks for the quick replies. With help of those documentations I was able to manage the migration. :-)
