PowerPath/VE Trial Download FAQ

Here are some of the frequently asked questions (FAQ) about EMC PowerPath/VE, including information about trial license keys, license activation, and more.


Q: Where can I get the PowerPath/VE for VMware vSphere (or Microsoft Hyper-V) free download?

A: You can download a no-charge, 45-day evaluation copy of PowerPath/VE for vSphere or Hyper-V from the EMC Community Network (ECN) website.


Q: What files do I need to download:

A: Two (2) components are required for the solution:


     1.  The PowerPath/VE for VMware vSphere or Microsoft Hyper-V software, and

     2.  The appropriate version of remote tools (RTOOLS) for your operating system

Q: Where do I get a license key?

A: The trial license key or License Activation Code (LAC) is a 20-digit alpha-numeric code required to activate the trial software.  To obtain your PowerPath/VE trial LAC, email: licensekeys@emc.com.


Q: How do I activate the trial LAC?

A: You need a Powerlink account to log in to the Powerlink Licensing portal.  If you do not have a Powerlink account, navigate to http://powerlink.emc.com and follow the New Member Registration steps to create your account.


Note: If you are not able to obtain an account immediately, you can access the Powerlink Licensing portal with restricted privileges that allow you to  activate licenses only for the LAC you provide.


     To access the Powerlink Licensing portal:


     1. Navigate to http://powerlink.emc.com and log in using your username and password.

     2. From the Powerlink home page, navigate to Support > Software Downloads and Licensing > License Management and click on PowerPath/VE.

Q: What's the quickest way for me to become productive with PowerPath/VE?

A: View the installation video for an overview of how to install and begin to use PowerPath/VE.


Q: What documentation do I need to get started?

A: Installation and administration guides for PowerPath/VE for VMware vSphere and Windows Hyper-V are available with the trial software download.

The email link is no longer in service.

If you are contacting EMC for licensing support for VMAX, Symmetrix, PowerPath, Ionix, Connectrix, RecoverPoint, Replication Manager, VNXe or VNX software you must choose one of the following support options:

  1. Visit https://support.emc.com/servicecenter/ to:
    • Use the Live Chat feature between the hours of 3:00 AM and 7:00 PM Eastern
    • Open a service request
  2. Contact EMC's live support by calling 800-782-4362, option 4, option 4 at any time


The registration for the EMC community site does not work for the enterprise single sign on, and when you attempt to re register, it blocks you. Since you've already used that email. 

Someone might want to look into that.

It's pretty frustrating.

The phone number options don't work either.

Resulting in a very unsatisfactory customer experience.
