You are correct, a reconfigure reboot rebuilds the device special files. There is notthing you should need to do powerpath wise before the reboot.
You may consider deleting all non-boot disk device speccial files (relating to SAN disk) just to let them all rebuild from scratch.
After the reboot whe it's all ok and Powerpath commands are working again, do a 'powermt save'

You might find Knowledgebase article emc133499 useful, though its for scanning in new devices when using the leadville driver.
