Windows 2003 Server: Standard and Storage Server

Hi.
I'm currently using two editions of Microsoft 2003 Server(Standard
Edition and Storage Server)
each on two separate networks and both are DC's. (Dell Precison 650 and Dell PowerVault 775N respectively)

The following problems occur with both:

1. The event logs on both machines are working overtime.  Multiple
538/540/576 event ID's are logged every couple of minutes in 3's by the
SYSTEM user while there is no human user logon/logoff activity and it
is making the Event Log ineffective to review for security purposes.
Have tried making several changes within the Auditing Policy with
little success.  The Audit Settings are as follows:

Audit Account Logon Events                  S,F (Success, Failure)
Audit Account Management                   S,F
Audit Directory Service Access              F
Audit Logon Events                               S,F
Audit Object Access                             F
Audit Policy Change                             S,F
Audit Privilege Use                               S,F
Audit Process Tracking                        ND
Audit System Events                           S,F

Standard Edition is running SP1 while Storage Server is not. (SP1 did
not help event log problem in SE).

The next two problems occur separate of each other:

1. Computer with Windows 2000 (Dell Precision 530; AD not enabled) is connected to the
Dell Precision 650.  And takes between 2-3 minutes to login to the domain.

2. Storage Base Server (Dell PowerVault 775N) takes between 4-5 minutes to login locally.  This computer came straight from the factory.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Jase

I'll analyze the issues you're having, but I'd also call and open an incident with support for the PE.  The PV Storage Server OS is not supported to be a DC as it is a violation of the EULA.  NAS's are to be used a pure file storage only...the fanciest they will get is allowing exchange database files to be hosted from them.

I've seen problems with PowerChute causing slow startups...there's patches available for it from the manufact.
