Adding NAS NFS as a Datastore on EXSi 5
Hi
We've purchased an NX3200 NAS and have created a folder, which i've enabled NFS. The virtual disk on which the NFS enabled folder has been configured to RAID 5 and using a 1MB block size. I added the NFS shared folder as a datastore to each of my hosts through my VCenter v5.1. NFS is set up to allow annonymous access and root access is enabled. However, i'm having issues when migrating a powered-off VM to it. I have tried copying a file to the NFS datastore and this fails also.
I am getting the following error when attempting to migrate a VM.
Relocate virtual machine
Unable to
access file [
VSSBackups

Hello Stephen.Campbell,
The reason that you are getting the error is that ESX is trying to move the VM but windows don’t see the file name the same way that ESX does. So being that the file is present to windows storage server one way and ESX differently when windows doesn’t see the name relationship the same it won’t process the request even though it is done in ESX. What you can do is to not use NFS & use a 3rd party file sharing software to get around this issue like freenas. The issue is in windows with the NFS and there is currently no fix on the dell side of this issue. You can check with Microsoft to see if there is an alternate options but I am not sure there are any.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Stephen,
This is not a problem with the NAS or the ESXi host. Its a simple configuration issue. I have no problem using vMotion ot migrating VM's. It all deppends on your config.See if this link will help you ..
