Archive Python 06408-XXX Drive problems, 2 different servers so far

Question

Help,   I have 2 PE2600's with Archive Python 06408-XXX tape drives.  I have matched the drives and hardware to working servers and everything looks the same except the jumper configs?  But here is the problem.  These drives show up most of the time just fine under Device Manager, but if you go under RSM - Libraries the drive shows up, the error it gives is ' The object identifier does not represent a valid object' but with a RED x on it and nothing i have tried seems to help.  On one server we have replaced the actuall drive and the scsi cable.  This is driving me nuts.   Thanks in advance for any help you can offer Ben

Reboot the server with the tape device pysically removed.  Go into RSM/Libraries and delete all or any of the instances for the tape drive, once this is done reconnect the drive and reboot the server. Does the unit now appear correct? If not what driver version are you using for the tape drive?

One other thing that Bob didn't mention, what backup software are you using (if any)?  If you install Veritas Backup Exec, it uses a proprietary driver which will not allow Removable Storage access to the tape drive.
