A couple of things to check:

  1. Make sure you have the latest driver for the scsi card. If adaptec 39160 scsi card bios should be 3.10 and driver package is A14 from dell downloads
  2. Have the latest driver's for tape device (note: this will also depend on the software you use i.e. if you use backup exec you must use the veritas drivers)
  3. Check the scsi cable at both ends for bent or pushed pins
  4. try a long erase of the tape (not just a format) - this usually should fix it.

Hi,

Yes, it has the latest drivers and I have done long erase also. I think the device is defect. last week it couldn't do inventory and I have to power off the unit to be able to eject the tapes. (get a alot of error codes). I called Dell and they'll change the unit.

Hi,

I am having an almost identical problem, did you get this sorted out by replacing the machine or was it a deffective tape? Any help appreciated.

Kind regards
