Dell MD3600i virtual disk not on preferred path
Hi,
There is this error message of virtual disk not on preferred path for one of the virtual disk. I did manually change the owner to the preferred one and the warning message goes away. However, the warning message appear again after some time and the virtual disk is again not with the preferred owner. I know this might not be critical but this warning message is annoying. Any good method to eliminate this warning message for good?

Hello, cwtan.
When virtual disks are created, they are assigned to one of the two controllers as a preferred communication path. If that path is not available – due to a network issue, controller reset, etc. – the array will communicate via the alternate controller. In some cases the communication does not shift back to the primary path when it becomes available again. To correct this you just need to manually redistribute the virtual disks back to their preferred paths.
I'm curious as to what firmware you're running on that as well.
I would probably verify your cabling as well. Here's a guide for checking that.

Starting on page 16 is a guide for cabling. I bring this up because sometimes it's the host requesting an alternate path. So, it's good to be sure that all paths are open and functional.
Also, in this guide: downloads.dell.com/.../powervault-md3200_Administrator%20Guide_en-us.pdf - you'll find more information on Preferred and Alternate paths on page 31.
Let me know how it goes with the 'redistribution' of ownership.
