Dell Powervault 124T LTO4 120-0 and Perc 5/e controller card
Hello
i currently have a PE 2950 W2k3, attached to this is a PV 124T LTO3 scsi Auto Tape Loader. Also i have and MD1000 attached to the perc 5/e card.
Recently i purchased a refurbished PV 124T LTO4 120-0 Auto Loader, i have disconnected the LTO3 and attached the LTO4 to the second port on the perc 5/e.
i have managed to get the server to recognise the LTO4 but i have been having some difficulties with it.
Firstly i wanted to ask is the LTO 4 compatible with the Perc 5/e controller? if not which card do i need? i have not been able to find any information regarding this.
Regards

Hello Tech9_GB,
The PV124T LTO4 will not work on a PERC card. The 124T needs to be on a SAS 5/e as with it being on the PERC card it can affect the array that you have on the PERC card as well as make it so you don’t see the drive of robot. Due to the PV124T being a multi LUN device doesn’t run well on a raid card that has a Raid array setup on it.

Hi Sam
Thank you for your response. The SAS 5/e is a PCIe card and the slot in the PE 2950 is already in use by the PERC 5/e, i do have a spare PCI x slot, but dont think there are SAS controllers for this.

Hello Tech9_GB,
Dell doesn’t have any cards that are PCIx. You can check around for a third party card but think that you are correct & that there isn’t any that are made for SAS connections.

Hello Tech9_GB,
If you upgrade the riser then you can run both the PERC & SAS 5/e on the same riser.
Let us know if you have any other questions.

Hi Sam
You are correct, i have been having a look at the server specs and noticed i can upgrade the left PCI riser with a dual PCIe 8x 4x riser, this would then allow me to use the SAS 5/e but i need to confirm with DELL if this is compatible?
Kind Regards
