Driver halvinchVRTS failed to load after PowerVault 110T LTO2 firmware update
Hello!
I have updated PowerVault 110T LTO2 with latest firmware update (version 3AYC) as it was recommended by Dell. Update went smoothly, but after system reboot I always get an error
Event ID: 7026
Source: Service Control Manager
Description: The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load: halvinchVRTS.
This halfinchVRTS seems to be a part ob Veritas backup software I use.
What is the best way to solve the problem?
Regards,
Alex
P.S. I have PowerVault 110T LTO2 connected to PowerEdge 1750 running Windows Server 2003 and Veritas BackupExec 9.0. Will upgrade to BackupExec 9.1 help?

1. Are you saying that the upgrade caused the problem, or was it the same problem before the upgrade?
2. Does the tape drive appear in the W2K3 device manager (is the drive listed under "Tape Drives" or "Other")?
3. What SCSI controller are you using?
4. Is the drive properly terminated, no bent pins..etc?
5. Does the drive appear during server POST?
6. Assuming that all of the above is OK, re-run the Backup Exec device driver installer (tapeinst.exe located in the backup exec directory path). You may also want to download the latest backup exec device driver installer from the Veritas website.

1. Everything worked OK before the update, I updated firmware, rebooted the server, and got a message "One or more services failed at startup". I checked Event Log and found the message I came with.
2. Yes, it does appear in Device Manager under Tape Drives subtree. Nor red crosses, no yellow question marks.
3. Adaptec 39160. No problems with that one.
4. Yes it is. No bent pins, etc.
5. Yes, it does.
6. Device driver re-installation didn't help. Shall I install Veritas BackupExec 9.1 software update? Is tape driver included with the software update?

If the drive worked OK with v9.0, no need to upgrade yet. Here is one more option to try:
1. Run the Veritas device driver installer (tapeinst.exe) and select the option to UNINSTALL the Veritas tape driver. Reboot the server when completed.
2. When the server is back up, run tapeinst.exe again and select the option to install Veritas tape driver (non-PnP).
3. After server reboot, check if the error occurs again.
The updated tape drivers are always packaged with the Veritas device driver installer (DDI) which is located on the Veritas website. The 9.1 may have newer driver, but the DDI always has the latest.
