How to upgrade Powervault Modular Disk Storage Manager?

We have the SQL cluster with two nodes (both PowerEdge R610 Rack Server) connected to the DELL PowerVault MD3200. We wold like to add the new
DELL PowerVault MD3200i to the cluster.
Currently we are running Powervault Modular Disk Storage Manager version 10.70.G6.05 on the servers. New MD3200i came with the new version
of this software (10.84.G6.25). So I have to questions:

1. Do I need to upgrate Powervault Modular Disk Storage Manager?

2. If yes, what is the best way to do it. The manual suggests to uninstall the old version and install the new one. Is it the recommended way.
Will it affect the other software (drivers, ets) on the server or not?

When doing upgrades to MDSM I have never had to uninstall the old version first; I just install over the existing, reboot and you should be done.

Once both servers are up to date (or if you have any other Windows or linux servers attached as well, update them too), you can update the array firmware and drive firmware (if desired).

You must first update the Storage Manager cause the new firmware is not compatible with the old Manager Software. I tried it first without updating the manager software and got an error message what says this.

In other words, only after updating the storage manager the software detects the new firmware files correctly.

I tried first to install the new version over the existing, but I detected that not all components get the new version. In my case the start window of the storage manager shows version 10.84 and  the array mangement was still 10.75.

So I uninstalled the software via control panel. Caution: the server will reboot after uninstall without warning!

Then I detect that the uninstall process not remove clean all directorys and files.

To get a clean new installation of the new version of the storage manager I chose an alternative directory.

When the installation finishes you have only a few seconds to choose "reboot later" if you want this. Otherwise the server reboots without warning.

This suddenly reboots are very jolly on a failover cluster. :/
