Installing Sony AIT Autoloader in PowerEdge 4300

I want to install a Sony AIT autoloader (68 pin connector) internally in my 4300.  The machine currently as a 50 pin SCSI CD-rom installed, and then a single 68 pin LVD connector which runs to an external connector.  I have two options:

1. Get a 50 pin to 68 pin adaptor and attach the tape drive to the CD-rom cable.  What ID should the drive be set to if this is used?

2. Get a 68 pin cable and use the connector that the external port is connected to.  I don't forsee any need for the external connector at all.  What ID should the drive be set to if this is used?

The tape drive has an auto-termination setting.  Do I leave this enabled or not?

Hi,

I would prefer the tape drive alone on the 68 pin cable. This will make troubleshooting easier in the event of trouble.

Thanks

Thanks Mark.  I guess I didn't ask the question quite right.  Which option (1 or 2) is the better approach?

Hi,

1. The adapter part number is 1704T. The default Scsi ID for factory installed tape drives is ID 6.

2. The 68 pin cable is part number 1192P. Tha cable has a terminator built in, I would leave the drive terminated also. Scsi ID 6 applies here too.
