MD3000i replacement of failed disk

Hi.

A physical disk had a predicted failure on one of our MD3000i devices. I forced a manual fail on the physical disk using the SMcli following the recovery steps, the disk groups started rebuilding onto the hot spare. I then removed the disk with the predicted failure and then replaced it with a new disk and it showed as failed. I've tested the new disk in another MD3000i and it shows as optimal.

When I forced the old disk with the predicted failure into a failed state do I need to ut the new disk in an optimal state?

Many thanks

Chris

No..    Once removed the system takes it out completely, when the new drive is inserted it is seen as an entirely new drive and should show up optimal.    The array would do the copy_back and then also show optimal again when its' done.

Hi to all, i am facing the issue with a failed physical disk on our devices MD3000i devices. i would like to know two things if possible:

1. do i have to take the power off befofe replacing the failed physical disk with a new one?

2. does the new physical disk pick up the configuration that the failed one had?

if i have to reconfigure the new physical disk, what is the meaning of optimal???

hope to have a favourite reply from you guys

Hello, Chrisbarr35

So, moving the disk from array to array will cause a little confusion as well. At this point it would be a good idea to use SMcli and initialize that disk, ( start physicalDisk [0,7] initialize; ) and see if it goes "optimial / unassigned". (or whatever slot it's in) If it does, you can then use the "Replace Physical Disk" wizard.

Let me know if that works for you. Have a great rest of the week!
