Yes it is turned on as confirmed by the LCD configuration screen and it must be at least partially working since it successfully scans the labels of 2 out of the 5 tapes loaded. I could try swapping tapes into different slots and/or using tapes whose labels known to be readable on a PV132 but the library is at a remote site and I would not be able to do this until 8 hours from now.

Thanks for responding,

Andy

This is now resolved - it turned out to be a label placement issue!

First of all, I pulled 8 tapes out of a PV132T and loaded them into the PV124T and they all scanned OK. On looking closely the tapes from the PV132, I noticed the labels on all of them were placed dead central in the recessed plastic rectangle on the cartridge with about 1mm gap between the label and the left and right-hand edges of the recessed area. But on the tapes I put into the PV124, three of them had the label lined up with the left edge of the recessed area and a 1.5-2mm gap at the right edge - these were the ones that couldn't be scanned.

I've now stuck a fresh set of labels on the cartridges taking care to make sure they are all dead central in the recess and they all scan OK now. Seems the PV124T is very fussy about this since the PV132 doesn't mind labels being lined up with one side or other in the cartridge recess. This does have implications for label and cartridge manufacturing tolerances (or maybe the bar-code reader in my auto-loader is slightly out of alignment) but at least it's working now.

Well, I've learnt something,

cheers, Andy
