PowerVault MD3260 - Disk Access and MD Storage Array Software

Hi fellow storage lovers,

I have two quick questions.

1) Could you point me in the right direction to documentation on the correct procedure to access the sliding disk bays on this unit WHILE it is running? (if that is possible?)

2) Would running a copy of MD Storage Array Software on the network attached to this device for the sole purpose of getting hard drive information (number of drives, type, size, etc) effect the already running copy?

Thanks in advance!!

Hello batezy,

Here is a link to the user’s guide & if you look on page 23 it explains how to open the drawers of your MD3620. http://downloads.dell.com/Manuals/Common/powervault-md3260_Owner%27s%20Manual_en-us.pdf

You can run MDSM on any machine that you would like & can get any info from your MD3620i as long as it is connected to the same network as your MD3620 Management port is connected too. Also it would not cause any issues unless multiple users were logged into MDSM and were making any changes to your MD3620. Here is a link to the admin guide for MDSM as well. http://downloads.dell.com/Manuals/Common/powervault-md3200_Administrator%20Guide_en-us.pdf

Please let us know if you have any other questions.
