PowerVault TL2000 and CentOS 6.3
Hi everybody,
I'm faced with a problem as a new IT Engineer in a company where I'm working now.
The old system administrator has handed over me his infrastructure which includes day-to-day backup on PowerVault TL2000 and a lot of tapes with different former projects.
Now I have a task to restore one of the projects to one of the computers on the network.
I've read the manual but haven't understood how to read or restore data from TL2000 and copy them to CentOS 6.3. As I know, they used Amanda and mt/mtx for backup/restore.
Any help?

Hello lepetal,
Most backup software keeps a database of all backup & restores jobs that have run. In most cases if you need to restore a file you should be able to use the backup software to locate the file that you are looking to restore and it will normally tell you which media that it needs to do the restore. Now I haven’t personally worked with Amanda backup before so I am unsure of their menus, but you should be able to see the tapes that it is calling for with the file on them that you want to restore and load them into the TL2000. Once you have the tapes loaded then you will need to do an inventory so that your backup software knows which tapes are in the system. Once the tapes have been inventoried from Amanda then you should be able to run your restore & it should tell you that it completed & finished the restore or not. One last thing is that when doing restores it is best to point it to a different location then where it was backed up so that you don’t overwrite new data with the old data.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.
