Powervault MD 3620i virtual disk creation problem
Hi all,
We currently have powervault MD3620i storage system deployed. Currently the system is live and working. Under one of the disk groups I am trying to create a new virtual using the free capacity.
After right clicking on the free capacity to create a virtual disk, a small progress window saying "working" pops up and disappears after a few seconds. However a virtual disk is not created. And I couldn't find anything related in the logs.
What may be the possible cause? How can I find a solution?
Thank you

Hello efrasiyab,
Can i get you to create a support bundle from your MD3620i so that i can review the logs & see what is happening when you are trying to create a new virtual disk & it fails to create the VD. I will also send you a private message to your email address that is listed in your profile & if you can reply back to that with the support bundle that would be great.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Hello efrasiyab,
First off thanks for uploading the logs so that I can review them. What you can try is to remove the array from MDSM. Then you will want to close MDSM & restart MDSM. Once MDSM is back open then add the array back & then try again to create the virtual disk.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Additionally, If restarting MDSM is necessary and only option we have, then upgrading the device during this process seem reasonable to us. Are there any restrictions for updating the system? What would be the progress and outcome of updating?
Thank you

Hi Sam,
Shutting down the MDSM may cause us trouble at this time since it's a live system and the whole system depends on it. Is there any other way to resolve the issue?
I have one other small question if you don’t mind.
When we select the option to synchronize clocks for raid controllers, the time zone shown is incorrect as seen in the screenshot attached. How can we change the time zone?

Hi Sam,
We've already tried removing the device in MDSM and adding it back before posting under the forum. Actually that was the first thing we've done.
After facing the issue the first steps we took were:
-Removing/adding device in MDSM
-Installing the MDSM software to a different PC and trying the process all over.
Though none of them solved the issue neither the clock. What other options do we have?

Hello efrasiyab,
Removing your MD3620i & reading it back to MDSM will not affect any of the traffic & data that is flowing on your MD3620i. The only thing that it will affect is the management of your MD3620i but you will still have access to the system via SMCLI & the serial cable. If doing that doesn’t resolve the issue then we will need to do some other steps that may require some downtime of the san whereas doing this process by removing the MD doesn’t require any down time.
Also with removing the MD 3620i from MDSM & adding it back should resolve the clock issue as well as. If you wanted to setup an outage to upgrade the firmware on the MD3620i you can as there is nothing wrong with being at the latest version of firmware.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.
