Very Slow Backup/Throughput Rates with 120T Autoloader and BackupExec 9.0

We recently purchased a new Dell server with a 120T Autoloader. Unfortunately, the backup rates are atrocious - down to about 1 or 2 MB per MINUTE. Needless to say, full backups are out of the question.

We have checked the drivers for the Adaptec SCSI card (39160) and it has the most recent driver on Dell's site. I've updated the Veritas tape drivers, and have tried Sony's drivers for the drive. I've played around with Block/Buffer sizes in Backup Exec, with no appreciable difference. I've retensioned the tapes. I've turned off our real time A/V (Trend).

What am I missing, or what can I try next?

Same issue here. I am installing the updated 9.1 from T120 download area.

Also if you are useing the Adaptec 39160 card there are new drivers for Server 2003 as well.

I had the same problem on my system after switching networks.  I realized the problem was a an issue with the full/half duplex connection on the network card.  The network switch I was connected to was reporting 100/half connection and the NIC was set to auto for the duplex connection (=2MB/min backup).  I switched the card to forced 100/half and it upped the backup times to 400MB/min.  Something to look at...
