Dell T5820 + consumer GTX1080ti?

Greetings, I was wondering if anyone had try to add a consumer grade GTX 1080ti in a T5820 workstation?

In particular, can you close the case of the 5820 with a GTX1080ti plugged in (board and power supplies are too tall to close the 5810s)?

Thanks!

I don't know which model 5820 you have but there are 2 PSU's available, 425w or 950w, if you have the lower wattage PSU I would not install a GTX 1080 Ti, they use too much power.  Then there is heat dissipation to consider.

Edit:  Take a look at this Post, it has great input for your situation: https://www.dell.com/community/Precision-Fixed-Workstations/Single-GTX-1080ti-into-a-Precision-Tower-5810/m-p/6102897#M564%2Fjump-to%2Ffirst-unread-message%3Fref=lith_popular

If you still want to proceed, measure your PCIe compartment dimensions.  There are different sized GTX 1080 Ti video cards, many are too tall to fit in a Dell workstation case.  My T7610 needed a shorter height video card, less than 5" tall, because the video card's two power cables are top mounted and use up even more space. I found an Asus Turbo GTX 1080 Ti 11GB card that was a low height model: 10.5 " x 4.376 " x 1.5 " Inch (26.67 x 11.12 x3.81 centimeter).  It turns out that even at only 4.4" tall the Asus GTX's power cables fit perfectly and the side case cover closes easily, but there is zero room left over. Any video card that is much taller would prevent the side cover from closing.

The Asus GTX 1080 Ti does not overheat in my T7610 and is amazingly powerful, I am happy with my choice.

I have it working on my T5820 using the 950W power supply. I think I had to remove a strip of foam rubber on the lid to close it.

Hey guys on the 5820 which PCIe port did you use and which power port?  I'm trying to add a GTX 1080 to my 5820 and the system doesn't like it and won't boot.  I've tried both the 75w PCIe slot and the top PCIe slot with no luck.  I've got the 8 pin PCIe power cable hooked into the dell power module at the top, but it doesn't seem to boot power it.

Hi, we tested it in the slot closest to the CPU. Was working fine.

We are using a Xeon CPU and a 950W PSU.

One question to all:

Did anyone manage to use 2xGTX 1080TI in a 5820? We did not succeed providing the needed power to the graphic cards. The PSU with 950W should be enough.....
