How to connect Nvidia 4090 Graphics card in Dell T7920 Workstation ?
Hello,
I have a Dell Precision Workstation T7920, has a 1400watt PSU, want to plugin a Nvidia 4090 Graphics card. How can i pluginto as it has only 1 (8pin) cable in top & 2 (8pin) power cable in bottom.
So what will be easiest way to connect Nvidia 4090 Graphics card with 4 (8pin) connector ?
Folks, waiting for your suggestion & advice.
Thanks

I am curious, which make of 4090 GPU do you have (the exact make)? As for increasing the number of 8 pin connectors, though I am not a big fan of them, have you looked at PCIe cable splitters as shown here at Amazon?

I have used splitters like that with no problem but again not my first choice. As for those cards you referred to, they both use 2 x 8 pin connectors. So are you saying that your PSU does not have 2 x 8 pin connectors?

Hello,
Yes, it has 2 (8pin) connectors only, but if you have experience with graphics card provider's main cable which has 4 (8pin) connector & that is having a single 12 or 16pin cable connector. So what is your best suggestion how i ll connect those existing connector to graphics card connector.
Waiting for your reply.

The standard chassis of 7920 usually shipped with 2 but can provide up to 3 x 8pin (6+2) cables while the power upgraded chassis would provide up to 6 of 8pin cables, dongles. There is no ATX 3.0 power supply for Dell workstation yet.
It wasn't rumor, nVidia was investigating the reports of melting and burning of the new 12VHPWR power connectors. Some manufacturers already issued replacement cables. Following up with tech reports may help you be informed and able to avoid incidents when setup these cards.

I think @Chino de Oro is giving you good advice. The 7910 has several cable options from the power supply to the graphics card power adapters. I have to think that the 7920 has similar options. Even so, the idea of routing 4 cables into one adapter seems like a really bad idea. Anyone have experience with proper cabling, to avoid things that look like this?
The burning/melting adapter issue is real. Some more info here.It seems critical to ensure proper plug insertion and to minimize any physical stress on the joint.
I gotta say, as an engineer, that the plug design seems inadequate.
