Precision 5820 memory running at 2133MHz (DDR4 3200MHz DIMM)

Hi,

I have purchased dell precision 5820 for my company, and upgraded to 64GB of DDR4-3200MHz RAM lately (16GB X4), however, the reported RAM speed is only 2133MHz, not the supported 2666MHz.

Does precision 5820 strictly requires installing 2666MHz RAM?

Thank you!

Hi easytool,

Please refer for compatible memory configuration.

@DELL-Cares I am having the same problem, why would you guys not give us the solution publicly?

I bought a 64GB 3200mhz kit (8x8GB) for my Precision 5820 Core X and it is running at 2133mhz. How do I make it run faster than 2133mhz? The memory is causing a bottleneck running at this speed.

Thanks in advance!

@easytool I am having the same issue, looks like they’re just sweeping this issue under the rug rather than actually putting effort into fixing it.

My first set was a G.Skill F3200C16Q2-64GTZB and it ran 2133Mhz in my Precision 5820. I just bought another set, Corsair Vengeance CMK16GX4M2B3200C16 and it also runs at 2133Mhz. Guess at this point there is no point in wasting any more money on RAM hoping it would run faster than the minimum speed of 2133Mhz.

Both of these RAM kits are 3200Mhz kits. This is a serious issue with these Dell Precision 5820 workstations. Please make a firmware update to fix this!

For anyone who came upon this post looking for a solution. Dell’s solution is; their x299 chipped workstation does not support XMP memory. If you have RAM that is not specifically made to run at 2666Mhz, you have to expect it to run at a measly 2133Mhz.
