T3600 PCIE NVMe BIOS fails to boot & register as boot disk, while T5810 works fine

Hi BIOS and NVMe gurus

I have both a T5810 and a T3600 .

I have two Crucial CT1000P3SSD8  PCIE NVMe SSD Disks.

On T5810 clean WIN10 install I  can boot NVMe, no problem. 

However on T3600 although BIOS detects a Mass Storage in correct PCI SLOT (I tried all SLOTS) , BIOS fails to detect is as bootable.

The disk is cloned using Macrium Reflect, which I used many times before. It is an exact copy of the previous SSD (Non-NVMe).


I tested boot with old SSD and have NVMe connected, I can see and access the NVME disk as E:\  performing read/write  - no problem.

As stated, same NVME disk hardware is bootable in T5810 , after I during Windows 10 install process ref [ 1 & 2  ]  provided a NVMe driver; (iavroc.inf_amd64_d4e901bef9db7a2b  + I updated BIOS on T5810 to A34.

On T3600, after Win10 cloning, it possible somehow to inject the NVMe driver to the UEFI info, I thought it might resolve the issue that BIOS do not detecting the NVMe as bootable?

On T3600, I have tried both BIOS version A13 and A18 (the latter seems to be the latest?) although on T5810 I see a much higher BIOS version (A34).

Conclusion:  So I believe as a last resort the only thing to make this cloned NMVe disk bootable, is using tool like Clover bootloader?

While the T5810 natively supports bifurcation and NVMe boot, the T3600 will need a little extra modification work but it will boot from PCIe slots.

On a separate note, SATA SSD can boot Windows 10 about 2 - 3 seconds slower than from NVMe SSD boot.

Thank you @Chino de Oro ! I will read your links and tell you how it goes.

You mention that the boot time is not much difference from SATA SSD compared to NVMe disk, I agree.

This made me start ponder, is there a method to move/migrate all %USERDATA% and all %TEMP% Paging file etc. etc. etc. to the new NVMe disk?

As you point out, the boot time differ little but my problem is that my non-NVMe has almost exhaused it's space  and the NVMe is twice as big. 

So maybe quickest resolve ( highest ROI ) it I just use the non-NVMe for booting, and  I can move all Windows files ("Program Files) and env variables pointing to it, to the new NVMe disk, right?

Yes, you can go to settings and select storages.  There, you can configure where to save new apps, documents, music, etc..., you can choose the partition, drive (nvme) and the operating system will create a duplicated set of users files at that location.  You can leave the apps (programs) at drive C and move everything else to nvme drive.

There are many different ways people using their machine.  So, not one set of standard or settings will meet all demand usages.  You will have to decide which settings will give you the best performance or sufficiency.  For example, in video editing, users would put os and apps on mid-performance drive such as SATA ssd, the high-performance nvme drive will handle working files, temp files, scratch disks whereas large projects get transferred often, needing the fastest speed.  And finally, the large capacity, slow spinning drive would be used for storages. 

Some other settings are from the applications, programs to assign, setup where the download or storage locations will be.  whichever that suite your needs, I hope you get the point.
