T7810 - Is there a way to increase network bandwidth?

Hi,

I have a T7810 with an Intel Ethernet Connection I217-LM NIC at 1GbE.  I was wondering if there is a way to increase my bandwidth somehow with additional NICs (at 1GbE) so I can combine a few NICs to reach [for example] 3 GbE.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi @dajonx ,

What you're looking for named as Link aggregation. It requires suport for IEEE 802.1AX (or the previous IEEE 802.3ad) on routers which probably exist in server grade equipment only but not home use router. General home PC NIC do not support this protocol. Even though you've got a dual-port network card like this, you won't make it at home with general broadband routers.

Thank you bmcowboy!

So I would need to see if the switches (workstation is an office computer) supports that protocol?  And, I would need to replace my current NIC with a server-grade dual port NIC like the one you linked?

Hi @dajonx ,

Yes, but of course if you'd like to do this at office environment, better discuss with your company IT before action.
