3 replacemet 922s and it still doesn't work
My 922 printer distorts the characters across an entire line of text every 6-7 lines on a page. The characters appear slightly squashed from top to bottom. I've spent the last 2 months on the phone to Dell who have replaed printer (twice), cartidges (twice), USB and power cable. I've tried everything including different paper, re-loading drivers and connecting to a different computer. Nothing works except printing in colour or in high resolution.
Any ideas on this one appreciated.

If only it was that easy! The printer (printers..) exhibit the same problem with different documents printed from different applications (microsoft and non-microsoft), like I said all hardware has been substituted along with every cable, cartridge and paper type. You're right, I seem to be the common denominator, UNLESS, there happens to be a design problem with the DELL 922. The only 'fly in the ointment' with this suggestion is that many other people would have found the same problem and this forum would be littered with similar stories.
Recap - printing black text with normal quality in selected in printer preferences, results in each letter of every word across an entire line to appear slightly 'squashed' from top to bottom, still readable but no where close to decent quality. These distorted lines only happen every seven or eight lines. The same lines will be affected every time the print is made. If one of the characters is changed to colour then the entire line will be printed correctly.
Its a shame about this because otherwise I'm quite happy with the printer and Dell have kindly sent a total of 3 sets of replacement cartridges so far.
Anyway - all advice greatfully received...

The fact that even replacing the unit didn't work for you doesn't give me much hope... :(
Still looking for a solution too....
