3100cn and 016-310 Restart Printer message
I just had a problem with a Dell 3100cn that kept coming up with 016-310 Restart Printer on the front screen. I could not get rid of it, but then saw a post in this forum about another laser printer.
I saw that I could hold down Menu and power up the printer and it should reset the printer to default settings (on the other type of printer).
I did this on mine and it did not reset the printer to default settings, but brought up the Init Password message and asked if I wanted to Init the Password. I chose No, and the printer is now seeable on my network and everything is fine.
Just wanted to put this out there, as there was no indication as to the error and problem resolution on this site or in Google either.
Happy Printing.
Ben.

You just need to turn off the printer, and then hold down the "Menu" button on the front of the printer, and then turn on the power to the printer.
You should see the "Init Password" message on the front panel, and just choose No to not init the password.
It should be resolved. At least it was in my case.
Ben.

Ben,
You're a lifesaver! This worked for my Dell 5100cn also. The display said "016-310 Restart Printer" and so I figured I couldn't hurt it (it wasn't doing anything for me frozen), so I tried your suggestion. I turned off my printer, then while holding the Menu button down, I turned the power back on, the "Init Password" message showed, I pressed the right arrow button on the round button underneath the display, then couldn't figure out how to respond "No" as you say to do. So pressed "cancel" and that took me back to "Init Password", I pushed right arrow button again and then pressed Menu button (I think - I may have pressed the center button (enter) of the round button underneath the display. The printer then calibrated and I printed a page. I really appreciate your having taken the time to put your answer for the 3100cn here. I put what I did down in writing in case someone like me (not too sophisticated) is looking for the 5100cn approach. THANKS AGAIN!

Big thank you!!!!!
I was about to layout $300 for a new circuit board as instructed by Dell support. This 3100cn is in a high school computer lab and that $300 would have taken away from other supplies we desperately need.
Thanks Again,
Steve

Thank you so much for posting this Ben. I got a call from a remote location with this error and was about to drive out there but I saw this post on Google. It fixed the 3010cn with the same error message.
