I think the error is 010-397 . I think you are on to something with the part no. It is for 5110 instead of 5100. I don't see a fuser for 5100 when I search for fuser on dell site.
I can't reveal my source (sorry), but I do know beyond the shadow of doubt that p/n G6577 is indeed a 120v Fuser Unit for the 5100cn Color Laser Printer AND is listed as a CRU, which means Customer Replaceable Unit.
Not sure who you spoke with in support...... but that person was not looking in the right place OR at the right thing.
I have resaerched the records and found that the part number G6577 has the description: Miscellaneous-Hardware includes products like Adhesive Tape, Gasket, Washer, Plug, Bobbin, Cage, and PC Card Reader.
I think that is the manufacturer part number. On the 5110 fuser I have part # KX494 it has DP/N 0KX494 on the box, however when I looked on the dell website it lists.
Manufacturer Part# : KX491 Dell Part# : 310-8729
I don't see that part number on the box but on the reciept it list as sku number. I guess they have their own numbering system that is not the same as part number.
As it turns out, the G6577 fuser for the 5100cn "might" no longer be valid as it may be substituted for UH349, the lead-free version of the 5100cn fuser.
I'm not doubting that you have the right part number. I saw on an older post mentioned part number. "The part number I've found is G6577 or 126k-19401". Anyway I am trying to deal by email with customer support to replace the fuser. I think they use manufacturer part # and Dell Part number. Confusing but I can't find a replacement fuser on the dell website with any means. I think customer support may have more luck. Thanks.

OK...... what is the REST of the error message when you put the new fuser in?
Also, what was the p/n of the fuser you ordered?

This is a fuser interlock error. Yep, I think you have the wrong fuser.
It's possible it's just an oversight that left it off the Dell site.
The Dell p/n for the 5100cn Fuser is G6577

KX494 is the maintenance kit for the 5110cn which includes the fuser, paper feed rollers, sep. rollers, etc.
If you examine the label on the fuser itself, you'll likely find p/n TD218 embedded in that label. Again, this is the fuser for the 5110cn.

I just did some diggin' thru my email archives and voila, found the P/N for the 5100cn Maintenance kit.
It is HY723 and includes these parts:
N7591 ASSY,RLLR,SPRTR,51XXCN
UH349 ASSY,FUSER,120V,ULD,5100CN
W6183 INFO,TSH,MAINT,EFIGS,5100CN
As it turns out, the G6577 fuser for the 5100cn "might" no longer be valid as it may be substituted for UH349, the lead-free version of the 5100cn fuser.
Sorry for any earlier confusion.
