A920 printer problems...

Hope you can help... Please!!  Have a problem with printer and was advised to uninstall and re-install driver.

Did this (after lots of problems - am not well versed on this sort of thing).  The initial disc that came with printer would not work, so was evenutally able to do via a download from dell site.  Printer now function but there is no scanner option.  Tried via the control panel to add this: it says via wizard to insert disc, which wants to browse drives to copy manufacturers files - but don't know what to chose / do here?

Incidently the initial problem with the printer (and I still have!) is that it will no longer print black - have tried several different cartridges and all the self-help clean / set up options and still not joy.  Colour changed at same time - works perfectly!??  Don't suppose anyone can help re this as well?

Am desperate to scan an important doc today!

Thanks in advance

nadanada,

Missed the second part.

You are using Dell Series 1 ink cartridges, correct?

Dell Series 1 ink cartridges have a sensor in them that cannot be reset. Article on refilling Dell ink cartridges.

Dell Series 1 ink cartridges can be purchased at Staples, Walmart or Dell's Website.

If these are Dell Series 1 ink cartridges, then take them back to the place of purchase for a replacement or refund.

nadanada,

Follow the instructions as I have them below and then tell me what happens.

First, let's make sure your computer has the latest Windows Updates, especially .net framework, needed to run many applications and un-install all versions of Java, restart your computer and download and install the latest Java.

Disconnect your printer.

Download and run this patch to completely remove the printer from your computer. Run the patch, a MUST on Vista machines, until it prompts you to restart your computer.

Restart your computer.

Download the proper drivers.

XP Drivers

Vista 32-bit Drivers

Vista 64-bit drivers

All other drivers

Install the proper drivers. You'll be prompted when to connect your printer(powered on)

As for scanning, if you have the disk that came with the printer, then insert the Printer disk and stop it from running. Go to My Computer and double click on it. Look for the drive with the Dell disk in it. Right click on it, left click explore. Look for the OCR Folder. In the OCR Folder, there is an Abbyy Folder. right click on setup.exe, that's in the Abbyy Folder and left click run as administrator. This will install the OCR program.

If you cannot get the OCR Program off the printer disk, then you'll need to download and install an OCR Program from the internet. I have used Simple OCR and it should work fine.
