Dell 2155cdn bad firmware flash

I tiried flashing my printrer with the latest firmware and it failed. I waited till the program said finished then I power cycled the printer. Now it turns on and gives me code 016-317. From what I can find so far is that the MCU needs to be replaced. I was holding down buttons on the front of the unit and turning it on and off to see if I could get to a menu of some sort. By holding down the up arrow, check mark, down arrow when turning it on brought up a screen that says firmware upate password. From what I tried it looks like a two digit password is required. Can someone tell me what the password is?

Hello Bryon,

The error relates to the ROM chip becoming corrupted. You can try running the firmware update once more to see if it restores the device, otherwise the system board has gone bad. At that point it may be best to consider replacing the unit versus repairing.

Thanks for the response, the problem is that the printer is not detected at all. Usb or network using the firmware scan tool. As soon as I turn the printer on it whirs abit then it flashing on the screen the error code and tells me contact support. I thought that this new screen I found I could load the firmware my self and try it again. But I will need the password.

Joseph E, can you tell me what the password is supposed to be. It looked like I was only able to enter two characters.

Hello Bryon,

I am not able to locate any password for the panel that relates to the firmware update process thru panel. The only on I am seeing is up arrow twice followed by the check mark for enter for a different mode, but it is worth a shot.

Joseph E

Hello Bryon,

The file would end in .fls, this is the actual firmware package itself and can be located in the download file from the support site.

Hello Bryon,

You should be able to load the file just like any other to the flash drive, this printer only recognizes FAT32 format. In regards to the password I really can not provide any more direction or resources to check.

Was at the printer this weekend. I confirmed that power cycling the printer and holding the up arrow, down arrow and check mark bring you to a firmware update screen that requires a two digit password. Joseph, I did try the up arrow twice then press the check mark. It said wrong password. Tried at least three time with power cycles inbetween. Can you tell more about this firmware update feature as to what kind of file is required once a password is accepted.

This could be loaded onto a flash drive? How do I go about finding out the password?

Thanks

Still no luck over here, If anyone can answer what the password is, that would be great. I have also found that if you hold the up down and check mark when you boot up you get the developer log in screen. I tried the up arrow twice and then the check mark to accept but it just seems to power cycle the printer. I did find a service manual for a Dell 2355 is that close enough to the same model.

I know that this is a very old thread but if it helps anyone i have had the same problem and found that the PW for the firmware mode is the down arrow twice and then the tick to accept.

Did you ever resolve or find a solution to the bad firmware provided by dell? I still don't see any updated version to correct this error by dell. Ive tried everything. It seems like the firmware is only partial like an update on top of an existing so its missing some key parts to it. Installation stops about 40% and the printer reboots. I cant see how dell can provide a firmware that they recommend upgrading to, it bricks your printer, then they say sorry your out of warranty, go buy a new one.

Thanks Jerry
