Dell A920 Linux driver?

All,

I am running Fedora Core 4 on my Dell PC and I am using the Dell A920 printer that came with the PC when I bought it. When I boot up, I get a window that asks me to pick a driver, the only problem is that there isn't one for my printer. Any ideas on how I can obtain a Linux Driver for this printer?

Thanks,
byearw

You would have to write your own. Dell makes it very clear that their inkjet printers only work with Win 2000 or XP.

The Dell inkjet printers are made by Lexmark to Dell specs. which are different than Lexmarks.

Several people on this forum have tried to use modified Lexmark drivers to run their Dell with 98,95, Linux and various other systems. The ones who reported back said they didn't get it to work and that in installing various modified software they messed up the os and other programs on their computers and had to wipe and reload many of them.

If anyone has been successful at this please let us know.

The Dell A920 printer seems to be a rebranded Lexmark printer (I believe a Z600 or X100). The driver for Linux (Redhat/Fedora) can be obtained from Lexmark:

I haven't installed it yet. If you solved it already, I'm curious which driver worked for you. If you are still interested, I can report back to you when I've got it running.

Bas.

Install the Lexmark Z600 v1.0-1 linux driver.
The printer is basically a rebranded Lexmark 1150.

These links should help:

I print fine with mine running CUPS and the Z600 v1.0-1 driver.
