Dell B2360dn 900 Service Fatal Boot Err

I have a Dell B2360dn.  I attempted to load the latest firmware using the web interface.  Web interface stopped responding, I checked the printer display and it said firmware error and to cycle the power.  I cycled the power, and now upon boot it says "900 Service Fatal Boot Err".  There are some dots that scroll across the screen and freezes up with just two dots on a blank screen.

I have tried removing the power for several minutes.  I can't connect via network or USB.  I was going to try the firmware update again via USB, and the Firmware Download Utility does not see the printer.  The printer just shows the two dots on the screen.  None of the menu buttons do anything.

Any suggestions on what to try next?  I can't seem to find any info on a firmware recovery mode, etc.

Thanks

Edit - corrected model to B2360dn

ShawnB3,

Below are some steps to resolve the issue with the printer.

You may want to first unplug everything from the printer and reboot to see if that clears the error. Then add each item back, one at a time and cycle the power to see if one of the connected devices  may be causing the issue.

At the link below are the specific steps for installing the firmware Did you use a hard wired network connection to do the upgrade? If not, the wifi might have dropped during the update and caused the corruption.

900.xx Software, Firmware or RIP errors on Dell Laser Printers

This article relates to any 900.xx Software, Firmware or RIP errors on the following Dell Laser Printers:

This error is generally not related to any hardware fault and can be resolved with a software update.

Before updating the software try the following steps to resolve:

  1. Cancel all jobs in the print queue.
  2. Remove the Communication cable (USB or Ethernet/Network depending on your set-up).
  3. Cycle the power on the printer.
  4. Try a Settings Report:
    • Press Menu button on the Printer and Select Reports.
    • Highlight Printer/System Settings Report and Select.
    • The report should now print.
  5. If the Report prints please re-connect your communication cable (USB or Network) and try a print job.
  6. If the 900.xx error returns you will need to download and install the latest firmware.
  7.  updated the firmware and the error recurs please contact Dell Technical Support. If under warranty 1-800-624-9896, say ‘printer support’.  Or this number if you are out of warranty. 1-800-288-4410. Have your service tag ready when you call Tech Support.

Jesse,

The firmware upgrade attempt was via wired network.  As stated in my original post, removing the power for extended period has no effect, and I am unable to connect to the printer either via network or USB in order to retry the firmware upgrade.

According to Dell troubleshooting, Firmware Err[900.00] may have nothing to do with 'firmware'.  Checkout this link:
How to Troubleshoot 900 Firmware / Blue Screen Errors on Dell Laser Printers | Dell US

FYI - If unable to connect to printer via USB:
- Go to Dell support and type in service tag and search for and download firmware for your service tag.
- When you unzip the file find the USBFD.exe file for your computer and run it.
- You should be able to access printer via USB this way.  With the USBFD software running, you may need to restart the printer to get the USB software to 'see' the printer before it locks up with the Err[900.00] message.
