Dell Photo 966 AIO won't print
Approximately one week ago, I attempted to download Adobe 9. Immediately after, I tried to print and received the message "Printer status window interface has stopped working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." By the way, I have Vista OS, 32 bit. I have tried two things so far to remedy this. First, yesterday I did a system restore back before the Adobe 9 incident. The printer worked and printed 3 separate print jobs just fine. That evening when I tried to print, it had stopped printing again. Second, this morning I did a printer driver uninstall, patch, and install per Dell's website. Following this, I tried to print and once again received the initial message as above (printer status window interface has...etc.). What would be the next step to restore printing? Thanks.

Dodorizzi,
Please follow the instructions below and then tell me what happens.
First, let's make sure your computer has the latest Windows Updates, especially .net framework, needed to run many applications and install the latest Java.
I recommend that you use these Recommended Wireless Router Settings for the best communications.
Disconnect your printer. Download and run this patch to completely remove the printer from your computer. Run the patch, a MUST on Vista machines, until it prompts you to restart your computer.
Restart your computer.
Download the proper drivers.
XP Drivers
<ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell>
Vista 32-bit Drivers
64-bit Drivers
All other drivers
Install the proper drivers, you'll be prompted when to connect your printer(powered on)
As for scanning, if you have the disk that came with the printer, then insert the Printer disk and stop it from running. Go to My Computer and double click on it. Look for the drive with the Dell disk in it. Right click on it, left click explore. Look for the OCR Folder. In the OCR Folder, there is an Abbyy Folder. right click on setup.exe, that's in the Abbyy Folder and left click run as administrator. This will install the OCR program.

How Do I Connect a Dell™ Wireless Printer to a Wireless Network
Choose your printer. Beneath your printer, select your operating system. You'll be redirected to another page. Then click on show all steps. It will walk you through the installation process.
Let me know what happens and how you're connected.

Hello Rick,
Here's what happened. I downloaded the current version of JAVA (version 6, update 17). I have a Linksys router, and I'm not sure how to apply recommended router settings in the second link. I went ahead and disconnected the printer. Next, I downloaded the patch (R166245). I tried to unzip the file using Vista, but then the screen started rapidly flashing. I had to restart at that point. I tried two more times to unzip using Vista but got the same results. Just in case, here are the steps I used to unzip: 1) right click on original zip file, 2) choose open with, 3) choose default program, 4) clear check mark and click OK. Before I could proceed with right click and extract all, the flashing on the screen started. What would be the next step to get the file to open properly? Also, once opened what do I run, if anything? Thanks.

Dodorizzi,
Wow, the bold print so early in the morning. It was a little hard to read.
How to login to your wireless router should help you get into your wireless router. Then use these Recommended Wireless Router Settings
To open the patch, just double click on it, it should unzip and run automatically.

Hello Rick,
Just a quick update and question. I was able to unzip the patch after configuring Vista. I finished up with downloading from the 32-bit driver link. When I tried to print, I received the error message "A StartDocPrinter call was not issued." Also, when trying to print an email, the "save file as" box comes up. Lastly, the Dell printer status is shown as "deleting." What steps would resolve this? Thanks again. (P.S. - Sorry about the bold print yesterday.)

Dodorizzi,
You might be talking about the Dell Download Manager.
To use the Dell download manager you must have the Windows .net framework installed (use Windows update). Though it's not made clear by Dell, you DO NOT need the manager. Go into your browser settings and delete all Dell cookies (or clear all your browser cache). Then go back and choose "download using my browser" when you select the file for download. You will then not need the Dell download manager at all.
A StartDocPrinter call was not issued
The patch is really a Printer Cleanup Utility and helps with removing the Printer drivers from the co mputer. I would also try Manual Printer Driver Removal to make sure the printer is removed.
Restarting the computer after removal is a must as it helps to clean out the drivers.
I'm feeling a little tired but do not remember if you said you can copy a document when you put it under the glass or not. B&W and color? If the printer does not copy a document, we might have to back track a little.

Rick,
A quick update as I try to fix this thing. Today on start up, I did not receive the StartDocPrinter message. Also, I can copy a document (under the glass) in color with no problem. I was able to print one email today on first start. Then, on trying to print a second document, I again received the error message "printer status interface has stopped working." I decided to backtrack a bit and try to manually remove the driver as you suggested with subsequent re-install. I unplugged the printer, both power and USB cord. On manual try, I then received the message "unable to remove Dell Photo AIO...currently in use." I didn't quite know what to do since the printer was unplugged from both sources. What should I try next? Oh and thanks for your patience with me while I try to figure this out.

Dodorizzi,
Just a tweak should work.
Go to device manager(right click my computer, left click properties, left click hardware, left click device manager)
Go to the USB Controller section and click the + sign.
Go to each USB Root Hub and right click on it, left click properties, left click power management. Uncheck the box, allow computer to turn off this device to save power.
Restart your computer.

Dodorizzi,
You said...
How did you power down the computer and how did you power it back up?
Did not see any mention on the make and model of your compuiter, just that you have Vista.

Rick,
A quick update on what happened today. On "power up," I went through the steps as above. I did note for each USB root hub, the box for "allow computer to turn off this device to save power" was already unchecked (for each one). I did print a test page, which came out just fine. Then, I tried to print a document, and the printer worked (but that doesn't make sense as I made no changes). I printed five more times from various sources such as email and the internet, all coming out just great! I then powered off to come back later. On power up this evening, on first print, I then received the initial error message "communication not available." I did note for each USB root hub, it said "the device is working properly." Also, in the update driver software section, "windows determined the driver software for your device is up to date." I'm just not sure what is causing this "random" pattern of printing at times and not at others. weird...lol Any suggestions?

Hello Rick,
I have a Dell Dimension DXP061. For power down, I go to start and shut down. For power up, I simply press the "on" button on the hard drive. Let me know if you have additional steps I could try. Thanks.

Dodorizzi,
That's the correct way. I was checking to see if you might have been using sleep, hibernate. I had an old HP that didn't like hibernate, so I disabled it.
How long is your USB Cable. 6ft or smaller?
Did you try a different USB Port?
The know issues I have are for something with A
Try turning off the UAC feature, just as an experiment to see if you can get it to work.
