HP Photosmart D7360

WOW I am about to throw this "pretty" printer right out the front door.  I have installed the software on my new HP Photosmart D7360.  On first install it asked to insert XP discs.  *pffft*...my Dell came with XP loaded and I don't have the discs.  So....so much for that.  I uninstalled software.  Reinstalled software and it did not ask for the XP "merry-go-round" this time.  I can print from a SanDisk but I cannot print from my computer.  When printing a picture from the PC I get the error message.....
Dell Photo Printer 720: USB001
Printer cannot communicate with the computer
Try these solutions
Disconnect USB and reconnect
Disconnect powercord and reconnect
Restart your computer

Ok...I have done all the above SEVERAL times to no avail.  Please....someone help me.  Oh and by the way...I did the on line chat thing with HP....uh huh...they sent me directly to Dell.  I think I hear circus music in the background.  Please, please....someone help me.

I don't know about "XP discs", I've never seen that on an HP install.  But, I know you must first run the HP installation program and do not connect the printer to the PC untill the installation program tells you or Windows will either install incorrect drivers or the install will fail.  The fact it's looking for a "720" printer suggests you connected the printer first and Windows installed drivers for an incorrect printer (the 720).

If you didn't do this, it MAY be the problem and you should use the Windows XP "System Restore" and restore the PC to a date PRIOR to first attempting to install the HP unit and start over.  The System Restore will give you a "clean" point to install.  You can access System Restore by Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools.  You will not lose any user data or e-mails when you use the System Restore but if you installed any other programs they will be gone and you will need to install them again.

One other note, if you don't have the Windows XP CD, check the Dell FAQ in the Windows XP software section on how to get one.
