exm52626,

Make and model of your computer and operating system. 32-bit or 64-bit?

What virus program and firewall are you using?

Download the Vista 64-bit drivers for your printer from

http://support.lexmark.com/index?page=driversdownloads&locale=en&userlocale=EN_US

Install the Vista 64-bit drivers in the Vista SP2 Compatibility mode

Also in device manager -- still getting the wpd error

exm52626,

You can run Delete Print Jobs restart the computer and see if the printer was removed. Manual Printer Driver Removal download CCleaner and install, click on registry, scan for issues, save a backup of the registry, then click on fix selected issues.

Restart the computer. Try installing the printer again.

Try different drivers? Operating system in English?

Code 31

This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)

Recommended resolution

Update the driver

You may be prompted to provide the path of the driver. Windows may have the driver built-in, or may still have the driver files installed from the last time that you set up the device. However, sometimes, it will open the New Hardware Wizard which may ask for the driver. If you are asked for the driver and you do not have it, you can try to download the latest driver from the hardware vendor’s Web site.

In the device Properties dialog box, click the Driver tab, and then click Update Driver to start the Hardware Update Wizard. Follow the instructions to update the driver.

Either of these drivers works on win 7 base machine, but each time I print I produce an appcrash with the printer

I've tried install/uninstall & changed the usb root hub setting in the device manager to turn off powersave function

There are 2 sets of drivers for this printer:

exm52626,

Let's try a different approach.

Is this a Dell Printer made by Lexmark or is this a Lexmark printer?

Make and model of your computer and opertaing system? 32-bit or 64-bit?

exm52626,

First run Delete Print Jobs then restart your computer. Stuck print job(s) cause all kinds of printer issues.

Make sure the printer is not usb cable connected.

Lexmark recommends...

Start, all programs, Lexmark X3470, uninstall

(Please be patient as the printer uninstalls)

Restart your computer. Make sure the printer was removed. Manual Printer Driver Removal

Download CCleaner and install it. Click on registry. Scan for issues. Click on fix selected issues. It will ask if you want to backup registry, save yes and save it to your documents.

Restart the computer.

Make sure you have all the Windows Updates, especially .net framework, needed to run many applications and Download Latest Java

Restart your computer

Go and download the drivers for your printer from here...(I would try the Vista 64-bit drivers in the Vista Compatibility mode)

http://support.lexmark.com/index?locale=en&page=product&productCode=LEXMARK_X3470&segment=SUPPORT&userlocale=EN_US&frompage=null#1

Install the drivers first, You should get a message, the printer is not connected. Connect the printer at this time(powered on)

Remember virus programs and firewalls will blcok communications.

exm52626,

At this time, I only know of these issues and I don't see any of them applying.

Dell Studio™ 1536 Is Unable to Print Documents (AMD USB Audio Driver Filter) and uninstall NVIDIA's Network Access Manager

The only time I had an issue with a printer, the operating system was missing some file or the file became corrupt.

If you have the Operating system disk, you can put the disk in the computer and stop it from running.

Start, all programs, accessories, right click on command prompt, left click, run as administrator.

Type

sfc /scannow          Space between the c and /)

Hit enter. This will look for missing or corrupt Windows files and replace them.

Did you try Lexmarks Support, since it's their printer and error message?

exm52626,

Get your product key from McAfee. If you cannot find it, try using Belarc Advisor

Uninstall McAfee using the McAfee Removal Tool then restart your computer.

Try installing the printer using the method listed above. If the printer installs and works, then McAfee was blocking the printer.

You should be able to install McAfee and everything should work.
