Multifunction 3115cn Email incoming faxes

Has anyone been able to configure the 3115cn to email incoming faxes?  I haven't been able to get it going.  It will only allow forwarding to another fax number but not emails.  According to the dell site below it does have this feature.  But I can't seem to get it going!

PC and Network Fax

The network fax capability allows you to conveniently receive faxes directly in your email, saving you time and printing supplies. The practical 50 sheet auto document feeder also allows you to fax large documents while you spend your valuable time on other important tasks.

It is possible but not very simple to set up. First thing you need a mail server locally on the network e.g. exchange server. You can not set it up to use a online server.

Secondly the printer needs to have its own username and password on the mail server.

Unless you are running a large network with a complete server solution you are not really practically going to be able to use this feature.

Thanks so much for the reply!  Yes I'm running Windows SBS2003 which comes with Exchange.  The printer already has it's own network logon ID and password, which I'm currently using for credentials in order to scan documents straight to the server.

But I still can't find anywhere to put a forwarding email address.  I've searched the manual and printer's web console (which is pretty awesome by the way), but still nothing!  The only setting I can find about Fax forwarding is to another Fax "phone number" but nothing about a forwarding email address.  Any advice would be great!  Thanks!

I have the same need. I need to store incoming/outgoing faxes in electronic format. It would be a great feature to either send faxes via smtp or to a network folders for incoming/outgoing faxes.

Maybe a future firmware update will include these features. I am currently on the 9.15 firmware and will try the 12.15 version asap.

Hi Ricky.  I finally got hold of a Dell tech who seemed like he knew what he was talking about.  From what tech says there will not be a firmware update to do this, at least not in the near future.  Apparantly, there was some miscommunication on Dell's end.  They mistakenly advertised this feature for the 3115cn.  And even though reviews from CNET, etc say it does work, the truth is... it DOES NOT email incoming faxes.  Great...

What we finally did was set our 3115cn to forward to a pfax phone number.  The PFax service will recieve the forwarded fax and then convert it to an email (up to two email addresses).  The service cost $47 a year but it was the only solution we could come up with!

Hope that helps...
