My printer preferences doesn't include the option for grayscale any more
Hi all,
Until recently my Dell AIO 924 printer offered the option to print in grayscale. Now in the print preferences section, the grayscale box has totally disappeared. I don't know how to get it back as I've racked my brain this morning so I thought someone here might be able to help. I appreciate any suggestions/help as I am desperate to print in black and white and not color all the time. Thanks! Gayle
PS I recently put in a new black and white cartridge but I don't think that is the problem. Perhaps a driver update I did?

Gayle,
Are you using Dell Series 5 cartridges?
It may have been a Windows update that cause the problem.
Make and model of your computer and operating system, please.
Also include the virus program and firewall you're using.

Hi Rick,
Yes, I'm using the Dell Series 5 printer cartridges.
My computer is a Dell XPS 400 using Windows XP Media Center Edition, Version 2002, Series Pack 3.
My firewall and virus protection are through McAfee.
I have a bundled package which includes AOL, Microsoft, and Internet Explorer.
I will mention that recently another problem cropped up with my Adobe Photoshop Elements 4.0 and I had to reload it.
After that, my desktop settings for color automatically flips to a color setting of 8 bit (leaving the monitor looking psychedelic) so every time I log on I have to manually change the setting to 32 bit to get it to return to normal color.
I'm not sure that any of this is connected as I think maybe one of the Microsoft driver updates changed my AIO 924 printer and deleted the grayscale option.
Thanks for any help! Gayle
Please let me know if I haven't provided you with the information you need. Sorry for the late response, I've been out of town.

Gayle,
First run Delete Print Jobs to remove any stuck print jobs in the queue.
Disconnect the printer.
Download and run the patch(printer cleanup utility) until it prompts you to restart your computer.
Restart your computer.
Insert the printer disk or download the XP drivers from Dell's website. Install the drivers. You'll get a message, the printer is not connected. Connect the printer at this time(powered on)
Links to the patch/drivers can be found at...

Remember virus programs and firewalls will block communications.
