this is wht i was able to find on another forum... im not sure if u have performed steps in this particular order / not................

http://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsOneCare/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2645747&SiteID=2

since u mentioned that the installation hangs at 96% , i assume that IP address has already been assigned and then its installing the software???
If that is the case ... I would advise u to install the printer using the USB cable connectd directly to the PC .. that will give us a better idea if its something to with PC or PrintServer..

cheers!

Thanks.  I did install the printer driver using the USB cable, and the printer functions properly when connected to the computer directly by USB cable.

I looked at the post you referenced.  The post indicates the problem discussed there is limited to Vista.  I am running XP SP2 Home.  Nevertheless, I tried the suggestions in the post, but it did not solve the problem.

Just a hunch, but do you know how to determine the proper queue name in setting up the printer to print via LPR?  I suspect if I could confirm the proper queue name I might solve the problem (in point 2 of my original post).  I have tried the L1 and P1 suggestions, as well as others, but I'm trying suggestions randomly without any understanding of how to determine which port is the correct one.  Any thoughts?  Thanks.

Just a thought.

I use a wireless print server. After I setup my Netgear router, I then had to insert the print server disk, connect with USB and follow the instructions.

I use WPA security.

Broadcast SSID

Try channels 1, 6 or 11. Most devices work better on these channels.

Mixed b and g mode(n if available)

I then had to insert my printer disk, choose network, choose print server and follow the instructions.

Anytime you change something with you network(Linksys router) this will change everything in the wireless print server and has to be redone.

This is where I'd look at first, then try going from there.

Thanks for your suggestion.  Unfortunately, nada.  I appreciate your interest and time in responding nevertheless.  Jeff.

It seems more and more likely the problem is something on the Dell computer that is interfering with the installation files.  One board post suggests the problem is the .inf file is copied to the wrong location.  Can anyone think of a setting or something in XP SP2 that might be causing the problem?  Thanks.

Hi, all.  I solved the problem.

I solved the problem.  The key was the error code, which was "Error Code: -5003 : 0x5."  I searched the Internet, and found this solution on http://support.turtlebeach.com/site/kb_ftp/890217778.asp

which reads as follows:

This is a very rare error. This is an InstallShield error which can be
caused by mismatched versions of InstallShield. The PC has one version
installed and the product you are installing is using another version.

    SOLUTION:
    -  Go to C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield
    -  Take the contents of the folder and move them into a temporary folder
    -  The InstallShield folder itself should NOT be moved
    -  Now run the product install again
    -  After the product is installed, you may move those folders back

This worked.  The  software is installed and working!

Thank you to all who responded and tried to help.  I am very appreciative.
