Setting up Del H815dw for scan to email

I have a customer who bought a Dell H815dw to replace a Ricoh that went bad. I'm trying to configure the SMTP Server settings but I'm missing one thing. The old Ricoh did not use any account authentication as I believe the SMTP relay they use is setup to accept SMTP traffic from their public IP. The SMTP server is relay.appriver.com.

However there does not appear to be any way to setup this Dell H815dw for no authentication or anonymous authentication. In the "E-Mail Send Authentication" dropdown menu there is no entry for None or Anonymous. This is what I believe is stopping this Dell from connecting to the relay server.

Can anyone tell me how to configured this Dell for either anonymous or no SMTP authentication?

SmallBizAdmin,

You can download the online manual for information on setting up the printer.

Dell H815dw Printer Manual

Setting SMTP-SSL/TLS Communication

1 Select Print Server Settings from the left side of the page.

2 Click the Security tab.

3 Select SSL/TLS.

4 Select Enable from the SMTP-SSL/TLS Communication list.

5 Click Apply New Settings.

6 After restarting the printer, SMTP-SSL/TLS Communication is enabled.

For me to better assist in troubleshooting, please click my DELL-Jesse L and send me a Private Message with the Dell Service Tag number and your Dell Order number.

Thank you for your answer. I've been through the manual looking for the answer and it couldn't find it there or elsewhere which is why I asked here.

As for the information you provided, it does not help my situation and does not answer my query. What I am trying to find out is how to tell the Dell MFP to not use any authentication when connecting to the SMTP server. When configuring the E-mail settings, I do not see any option to disabled SMTP authentication. All of the options in the one dropdown appear to provide different ways of authenticating but not for disabling authentication.

The SMTP server I'm trying to use, which is the one that was used with the Ricoh, does not need account authentication as it authenticates by IP.

So how do I disabled SMTP authentication on the Dell H815dw so it can connect to the SMTP server?

SmallBizAdmin,

Unfortunately, I have looked all through the manual and see nothing to disable SMTP  Authentication on this printer. Some menus allow you to change the printer settings through the Dell Printer Configuration Web Tool.  I do not know if you have checked the web tool. If you have and still cannot find a way to disable it you may need to contact Dell Printer Support by phone to see if they will be able to assist you in resolving this for you,

We just purchased 3 of these printers because Dell discontinued the B2375dnf. We have about 300 Dell printers that ALL scan to email without using SMTP Authentication. This is going to be a HUGE problem for us. We may need to start looking at alternative solutions. I'm hoping Dell will update the firmware soon and resolve this issue.

We were finally able to get it to work. Deploying it may require manual configuration.

Set the email authentication to *invalid and config all the other settings like you normally would.

However, we created an pre-configured "App" on the machine itself pre-filling the "From" field. Our Exchange server was queuing up the previous emails because there was no "From" sender. Now that we pre-filled it, the emails gets sent out like it normally does.

Hope this helps.

I followed your idea of configuring the email authentication though I was sure I had already tried that. I then had the customer try sending a test scan. They didn't get any errors but they didn't get the scan email either. So now I'm trying to figure that one out.

I don't know what you are referring to concerning the pre-configured App. On the Email Server settings page, there is a field for Reply Address. I have an address set in there which is actually a non-existent address similar to the one they had setup on the Ricoh. It worked there so I figured it would work here since they don't actually reply to the scan emails. I guess it's more or less a filler.

I do notice on the Email Server settings page that right above the E-Mail Alert Settings section there is a label that says "SMTP Server Connection". This always had a status of a pending condition of sorts before whereas it now has a status of Ready.

So it appears the MFP is connecting properly with the SMTP relay server but for some reason the emails aren't getting through. Though I can't see what difference it would make I'm going to change the Reply To address to match what was in the Ricoh as the "Device e-mail Address". Maybe the relay server is expecting that.
