can I cable Dell 1700n directly to a Dell 2350 router LAN slot?

Having trouble with my Dell wireless print router 3300. It sits right next to me 2350 router. Can I cable my Dell 1700n directly to a LAN slot? If so, I could eliminate the 3300, and still have computers onmy network access the 1700n printer. See http://en.community.dell.com/forums/t/19267373.aspx for background.

If you have an open "LAN" port (1,2,3,or 4) on the 2350 router, you should not have a problem doing it this way. Just plug a standard RJ45 network cable from the router to the printer. After an IP address is assigned to the printer, the printer should automatically print a network settings page.

If your router has the the ability to always assign the MAC address of the printer a specific IP address, I might suggest doing this so your IP is always "locked down" for the printer.

Another method is to assign the IP of the printer to a static IP within the address range of your router, but "above" the default DHCP range.

Please let me know if you need any additional network pointers.

p.s., elimination of the 3300 is a good move :emotion-5:

This worked. I bought a RJ 45 and used an open LAN port on my 2350. Reset the printer IP and that was easy. Thanks. No more 3300.
