Adjusting the background color on PowerPoint to a certain %

I recently took a PowerPoint test, where I was asked to match the background to a certain color of grey. They gave me a percentage to adjust the color to. I know how to change background colors and choose various gradients of a specific color, but I don't know how to make a background match a certain percentage. Does anyone know how to do this? Please let me know as soon as possible. I plan to be retested next Friday.

Sounds like you're taking the Microsoft Office Specialist test.  They throw a lot of odd-ball questions at you.  Although I am not certified in PowerPoint (I am certified in Word and Excel), I kind of know some of the goofy things they look for.  Unfortunately there is nothing on the Microsoft website to help you.

In any PowerPoint slide, right click, choose Background.  In the window that appears, on the left you will have a pull-down menu right above the "omit backround graphics from master" that shows the default color as white.  Click on that arrow and choose "fill effects."  In Fill Effects, choose the "Pattern" tab.  The default color that mine came up with was blue.  Change the background color to any gray (pull down the menu, choose "more colors" and choose a gray color at the bottom).  Click OK.  This will bring you back to the Pattern menu.  Click the square in the far upper-left corner.  Notice it shows "5%" in a large bar below all the patterns.  Click the square right underneath it.  It now shows "10%".  Keep clicking down and the percentages change.  Those two left-hand rows are all percentages.  Once you hit the third row, they turn into pattern names.

I can find nothing else that makes references to percentages of color.  I hope this helps, although sometimes with the MOS test you're just stabbing in the dark.  Good luck.

Thank you. I'm going to check it out right now.

Btw, the test was not to become certified; it was for contractual employment.

I really appreciate your help.

It works with any fill colour, not just grey.
