Dell backup and recovery manager

You can locate the software - the Dell Backup and Recovery Manager (DBRM) at the Downloads section for your machine (use your service tag) at the Dell Support site. HOWEVER, that is not all you need. I have re-installed it, BUT it  comes up with a big fat error: "This system does not have the Windows Recovery Environment installed. This is required to run Dell Backup and Recovery manager." So, I'm still screwed - I cannot get the DBRM to run so that I can RECOVER the image that I made! 

Argh! - deep frustration.

There is a subtlety here. I am running Windows XP (downgrade from Windows 7). The DBRM worked well enough from the factory on XP, but on loss of the hard drive and re-installation of XP, and re-installation of DBRM it no longer works. Something is missing - well the Windows Recovery Environment is missing, BUT this is not a normal environment to install on XP. I need to know how the factory installs this on XP. I have tried this http://www.svrops.com/svrops/articles/winvistare.htm but the very final bit - alter the boot menu -  I cannot do, because the instructions are for Vista (or Windows 7). The Windows XP boot is different from Windows Vista and Windows 7.

So how does the factory do it? How do they configure the boot, how do they configure the location of the wim file, etc.? I have not found any instructions at Dell for doing this...

I had the same error, and it turned out to be because I had installed the 32-bit version of DBRM, and I have a 64-bit system. (Boo to the Dell download system for not detecting this and warning me, even though it "knew" what system I was downloading it for.) I uninstalled it and installed the 64-bit version, and it seems to be working now. The same thing, or the reverse, might be causing your problem.

Any fix for this? I've been on with Dell support for over 2 hours now, and getting nowhere.

Could you please tell me exactly how to download DBRM 32 bit to install on a 32 bit version of Windows 7?  Multiple attempts to do this from Dell have failed to yield a program that will actually run.  I wonder if I keep getting the 64 bit version.  After an hour download and initialize, it always fails to initialize due to some undescribed error
